FGDs/IDIs

FGDs, or Focus Group Discussions, are group interviews where a discussion among a small group of people is led by a moderator to collect qualitative data on a specific topic. IDIs, or In-Depth Interviews, are one-on-one interviews where a moderator asks open-ended questions to explore a topic in depth. Both FGDs/IDIs can be used to gather insights from individuals or groups, and can be conducted in person or online.

Conducting FGDs/IDIs

FGDs/IDIs are two of the best methods to gather rich and detailed insights from the target audience. There are several steps to conduct FGDs/IDIs:

FGDs/IDIs -FGD
1. Defining research objectives:

First, we identify the research goals, the target audience and other parameters to create relevant questions that will get us the information we need.

2. Recruiting participants:

For FGDs, we recruit a small group of people with a common factor like age, occupation etc. as required for the research objective. For IDIs, we bring in individual participants who are willing to be interviewed in depth.

3. Conducting FGDs/IDIs:

FGDs are conducted by a trained moderator who can guide the discussion and keep it on track. For IDIs, the moderator asks open-ended questions and probes for deep insight. These sessions are recorded for transcription and analysis.

4. Analysis and Reporting:

We transcribe the recordings and code the data by identifying themes and patterns in the responses. This helps us draw meaningful insights and helps us in creating the reports.

Benefits of FGDs/IDIs

1. In-depth data collection:

FGDs/IDIs allow for detailed data collection that can be used for a deeper understanding of the target audience.

2. Adaptability:

These methods also allow for flexibility as the moderator can adjust the questions according to the responses of the participants.

3. Exploring difficult topics:

FGDs/IDIs are great at exploring topics that may be difficult to explore through other means. For example, some sensitive issues that the respondents may be hesitant to discuss in a survey.
